  DIGITAL IMAGE FUNDAMENTALS                                                         9

Elements of  digital image processing systems- Elements of visual perception- psycho visual model- brightness- contrast- hue- saturation- mach band effect- Color image fundamentals - RGB- HSI models- Image sampling- Quantization- dither- Two- dimensional mathematical preliminaries

UNIT II     
    IMAGE TRANSFORMS                                                                                 

1D DFT- 2D transforms DFT- DCT- Discrete Sine, Walsh- Hadamard- Slant- Haar
Wavelet Transform

UNIT III       
IMAGE ENHANCEMENT AND RESTORATION                                     9

Spatial domain enhancement: gray level transformations - histogram modification and specification techniques- Image averaging- Directional Smoothing- Median- Geometric mean- Harmonic mean- Contra harmonic and Yp mean filters- Homomorphic filtering- Color image enhancement. Image Restoration degradation model- Unconstrained and Constrained restoration- Inverse filtering: Removal of blur caused by uniform linear motion- Wienefiltering- Geometric transformations: spatial  transformations- Gray- Level interpolation

IMAGE SEGMENTATION AND REPRESENTATION                           9

Point- line and edge detection- Edge linking- Region based segmentation: Region splitting and merging.

Image  representation:  chain  codes   polygonal  approximations   signatures  
boundary segments skeletons

     IMAGE COMPRESSION                                                                              

Need for data compression-Error free compression: variable length coding, bit plane coding, LZW coding. Lossy compression: Transform coding, wavelet coding.

Compression standards: binary image compression standard, still image compression standards, video compression standards.
